Explore and Analyse PECDv4.2 Climate and Energy Data#
This collection of training notebooks was developed for the 2025 ENTSO-E ECMWF training on the Copernicus PECDv4.2 dataset. The data is provided via the Copernicus Climate Data Store (CDS) and combines:
π Climate data (e.g. wind speed, global horizontal irradiance, temperature, precipitation)
β‘ Energy indicators (e.g. capacity factors for solar PV and wind power, hydropower inflows)
The notebooks demonstrate how to:
π½ Download PECD data using the CDS API (full datasets and subsamples)
π Explore both gridded and aggregated data from NetCDF and CSV files respectively
π Generate figures, maps, and statistics for energy-climate analysis
βοΈ Compare different wind and solar technologies
π‘οΈ Analyze the impacts of climate change using CMIP6 projections
πΊοΈ Perform custom spatial aggregations using NUTS masks or custom groupings
βοΈ Analyze PV overplanting scenarios
The notebooks are aimed at analysts, researchers, and practitioners working in energy planning, climate adaptation, or climate services.
